Elder Abuse in Queensland

The ALA has made a submission to the Education, Arts and Communities Committee (Committee) as part of the Committee’s inquiry into elder abuse in Queensland.
The ALA’s submission addresses:
- what definition of “elder abuse” the Committee should adopt for this inquiry;
- the nature of elder abuse in Queensland; and
- recommendations for improving responses to elder abuse in Queensland.
The Committee handed down its final report on Friday, 12 December 2025.
The Queensland Government has tabled its response to the Education, Arts and Communities Committee’s Inquiry into Elder Abuse in Queensland. The inquiry made 16 recommendations across areas including national reform, support services, age-friendly systems, enduring powers of attorney, and adult safeguarding.
The Government response outlines a mix of support for these recommendations and issues identified for further consideration.
