The ALA has made a submission to the Queensland Parliament’s Justice, Integrity and Community Safety Committee on the Civil Liability (Holding Institutions Accountable for Child Abuse) Amendment Bill 2026.
The ALA supports the Bill, which responds to the decision in Bird v DP [2024] HCA 41 by restoring access to vicarious liability claims for survivors of institutional child sexual abuse where the perpetrator was not a formal employee, and recommends its passage.
