The ALA Elder Law Special Interest Group seeks to develop, promote, and respond to policies and legislation that impacts on older Australians with a particular focus on aged care and elder abuse matters.
The SIG comprises lawyers who champion for the rights of older Australians, both as lawyers helping people and their families access justice, and in the political arena advocating for legislation that codifies and enforces people’s rights.
The group meets monthly and is actively engaged in addressing matters such as:
- The rights of aged care residents;
- Aged care contracts;
- Restrictive practices in aged care facilities;
- Elder abuse and the role of lawyers in combatting this abuse.
ALA members can receive updates and information from this SIG. Please email [email protected] to be added to the SIG mailing list.
