The ALA's Special Interest Groups (SIGs) discuss and advocate on issues relevant to their specific areas of interest and help inform the ALA’s national policy platforms. New SIGs are formed from time to time when the need arises.
You can get involved by joining the relevant SIG mailing list to receive updates and news from the special interest group or you can apply to join the SIG leadership group. The SIG leadership groups are usually comprised of 10 to 15 ALA members from across the country who meet regularly to share information, advocate on related issues by preparing submissions and liaising with government authorities and politicians and preparing CLE content. SIG members are also often the public spokespeople for the ALA in their area of expertise.
SIGs are a great opportunity for ALA members to take a leadership role on the national agenda for the critical areas of practice for our membership, and for the people we represent. New members to the leadership group are accepted when there is capacity to do so.
If you have any general questions about SIGs or their operation and function, please email [email protected]. Members are also welcome to reach out to the SIG leadership groups with questions and concerns that the SIG may be able to assist with via the same address.
