Human Rights Special Interest Group

The ALA Human Rights Special Interest Group seeks to develop, promote and respond to policies relating to domestic human rights and anti-discrimination issues in Australia.

The policy priorities for the SIG are:

  • The need for additional legislative human rights protections including a federal human rights charter;
  • The need for human rights charters in States and Territories that do not have one yet, and to strengthen the human rights charters currently in existence in Victoria, ACT and Queensland;
  • Advocacy for the human rights of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples;
  • Advocacy for refugees and asylum seekers.

The group provides a forum for members to share information on relevant human rights issues.

ALA members can receive updates and information from this SIG. Please email [email protected] to be added to the SIG mailing list.

If you are interested in joining the SIG, please email [email protected].
