Seminar: Recent cases and updates in Abuse Law

Overview

Join the ALA for a breakfast seminar featuring leading barristers discussing recent issues in institutional abuse matters and network with fellow professionals working in this area. Gain first-hand insights and keep up to date with the implications of three high-profile and current cases.

First up Gerard Mullins KC will explore the complexities surrounding credibility in sexual assault cases, with a focus on BYM v The Corporation of The Trustees of The Catholic Archdiocese of Brisbane. Gain valuable insights into how courts assess credibility in such matters.
Vicarious liability and the question of the employee / employer relationship continues to evolve, and Bird v DP serves as an example of where the law is heading. Jeremy Wiltshire will guide us through this significant case and what it means.
Finally, Philip Nolan will take an in-depth look at Willmot v State of Queensland. The outcome of this matter is likely to guide applications for permanent stays moving forward.

A hot plated breakfast will be served on arrival and there will be the opportunity to ask questions and engage with the presenters.
