Overview
Victoria Police is increasingly under scrutiny following a series of high-profile misconduct cases, the Royal Commission into the Management of Police Informants and a parliamentary inquiry into external police oversight.
In response, the Victorian Government publicly committed to reforming the police complaint system. However, questions remain regarding what reform is needed and whether reform is achievable in the current political environment. The ALA has long advocated for a robust and independent police complaint system.
We are fortunate to have two key experts in this area, Dr Michael Maguire and Emeritus Professor Jude McCulloch, agree to hold an in-depth and informative discussion on this important topic.
Dr Michael Maguire is the former Northern Ireland police ombudsman and former chief inspector of criminal justice. Emeritus Professor Jude McCulloch is one of the leading academics in this area, having published books and articles on all aspects of policing.
