ACT solicitor wins national ALA Member of the Year

18th Oct 2024

An ACT solicitor who gives her time and expertise generously to support the plaintiff legal community in the ACT, Ms Amy Burr, has received the Australian Lawyers Alliance’s 2024 national Member of the Year Award.

Amy was presented with the award during the Australian Lawyers Alliance’s (ALA) National Conference in Fremantle, WA yesterday. The ALA is a not-for-profit member organisation dedicated to promoting and protecting justice and the rights of individuals, particularly those who have been injured, abused or are particularly vulnerable.

“Amy is a truly deserving recipient of our Member of the Year Award,” said Ms Michelle James, National President, ALA. “Amy has been an active and committed member of the ACT ALA Committee for more than 15 years.

“It is members like Amy that make the ALA a success. Members who contribute regularly, encourage others to get involved, make positive contributions and take on leadership roles where needed.”

Amy has served as both ACT Branch President and Secretary over the years and has been actively involved in organising conferences and other educational activities for the ACT legal profession.

“The ACT plaintiff lawyer community is not large, and it is a small group of members who advocate for law reform, organise events and run the ALA branch,” said Ms James.  “Amy is a critical member of this group and has been a reliable and trusted contributor to the branch over many years. She is a terrific mentor for more junior professionals and is a high respected and valued lawyer in the ACT.

“Amy contributed without expecting reward or recognition so we are very pleased today to recognise her incredible contribution to the organisation.”

This year, two members were awarded ALA Member of the Year with Qld Barrister Gerard Mullins KC also recognised for his contribution to the organisation.
