Dr Andrew Morrison RFD SC wins ALA Member of the Year Award
19th Oct 2018
Barrister Dr Andrew Morrison RFD SC has been named the Australian Lawyers Alliance (ALA) 2018 Member of the Year acknowledging his years of tireless advocacy for justice.
ALA National President Noor Blumer said Dr Morrison was an example of how someone could make a real difference to the lives of vulnerable people who deserve justice.
“Andrew has been a long-time campaigner for the rights of the individual, the preservation of the rule of law, and protecting individuals against the more oppressive actions of governments,” Ms Blumer said.
“Andrew has been tireless in his advocacy before the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse. He has prepared multiple submissions and attended round tables, participated in working parties and given evidence. He is passionate about ensuring justice for the survivors of institutional child sex abuse.
“Andrew has been a member of the ALA NSW State Committee for more than a decade and each year he gives many, many hours to the organisation. Andrew regularly drafts, reviews and approves submissions and he has appeared before several parliamentary inquiries on behalf of the ALA.
“Andrew also regularly contributes to public commentary and debate in the media, conducting frequent interviews to support the ALA’s advocacy,” Ms Blumer said.
Andrew regularly shares his experience and knowledge by presenting case updates at the ALA’s NSW and National conferences and he provides regular practice updates which are published in the ALA weekly newsletter.
“Andrew is a wonderful example of how one person can make a real difference,” Ms Blumer said. “Year after year Andrew’s ongoing commitment to justice and his support of the ALA are exceptional.”
