The ALA made a submission to the Joint Committee on Law Enforcement concerning Australia’s illicit drug problem, affirming our established position on drug policy reform. Specifically, we highlight the need for decriminalisation of illicit drugs, as current prohibitions have proven counterproductive and ineffective. We explore the success of current harm minimisation approaches across jurisdictions, outlining the benefits of decriminalisation on social systems, health outcomes and community welfare at large.
