Health Practitioner Regulation National Law and Other Legislation Amendment Bill 2024 (Qld)

1st Oct 2024

QUEENSLAND / NATIONAL

The ALA has made a submission to Queensland Parliament’s Health, Environment and Agriculture Committee (Committee) on the Health Practitioner Regulation National Law and Other Legislation Amendment Bill 2024 (Qld) (Bill).

This Bill proposes additions and amendments to the Health Practitioner Regulation National Law in response to what has been identified as “a concerning increase in notifications made against registered health practitioners for sexual misconduct”.

Our submission addresses the matters relating to the Bill:

  • the recording of additional information in National Registers or Specialists Registers;
  • increasing transparency and the need for public education; and
  • voiding provisions of non-disclosure agreements and introducing offences regarding entering into certain non-disclosure agreements.

Queensland Parliament was prorogued on Tuesday, 1 October 2024 ahead of the Queensland Election, and so this Committee was dissolved. We will monitor further developments with regards to this Bill.
