National Disability Insurance Scheme Amendment (Getting the NDIS Back on Track No. 1) Bill 2024 (Cth)
13th Aug 2024
NATIONAL
The ALA has been authorised to publish our submission dated 26 July 2024 to the Community Affairs Legislation Committee (‘Committee’) for the Committee’s second inquiry into the National Disability Insurance Scheme Amendment (Getting the NDIS Back on Track No. 1) Bill 2024 (Cth) (‘Bill’).
In our submission, the ALA has noted our concern that public and media attention is being focused on the vilification of NDIS participants and their recognised human rights. Instead, ALA members believe that the focus on NDIS reforms must be directed at refining and progressing this Bill before the next Federal Election.
Even with the amendments that have been made to the Bill in the House of Representatives, the ALA remains concerned about many provisions in this Bill in its current form. We referred the Committee to the recommendations made by the ALA in our submission dated 22 May 2024 to the Committee’s first inquiry.
Subsequently, on Friday 9 August 2024, the Committee released its final report arising from its inquiry into the Bill. While acknowledging multiple concerns held by stakeholders about some provisions of the Bill, the Committee has recommended that the Bill “be passed as soon as practicable”.
