Veterans' Legislation Reform – Exposure Draft: Veterans’ Entitlements, Treatment and Support (Simplification and Harmonisation) Bill 2024 (Cth)

4th Jul 2024

NATIONAL

The Veterans’ Entitlements, Treatment and Support (Simplification and Harmonisation) Bill 2024 (Bill) was introduced this week into the House of Representatives.

The Bill aims to simplify and harmonise the existing tri-Act framework of legislation governing veterans’ entitlements, rehabilitation and compensation arrangements. The Military Rehabilitation and Compensation Act 2004 (Cth) will operate as the single piece of legislation from 1 July 2026, providing coverage for all future claims for compensation, irrespective of when and where the veteran served, or when their injury or illness occurred.

The introduction of this legislation comes after stakeholder consultation on the Exposure Draft of this Bill earlier this year. This stakeholder consultation, to which the ALA made a submission in April, was conducted by the Department of Veterans’ Affairs.
