Submissions
Voluntary Assisted Dying
2nd May 2023
AUSTRALIAN CAPITAL TERRITORY
The ALA has made a submission to the ACT Government as part of its consultation on developing the legislation and model for a voluntary assisted dying scheme in the ACT.
As part of our responses to the ACT Government’s key questions in its discussion paper, the ALA reflected on the implementation of voluntary assisted dying schemes in the six state jurisdictions, and urged the ACT Government to join the state governments in advocating for the Commonwealth Government to amend the Criminal Code Act 1995 (Cth) – which contains The Criminal Code – to allow Telehealth consultations for VAD.
The ACT Government will release a ‘Listening Report’ in mid-2023, which will reflect stakeholder feedback, and then will introduce a Bill for voluntary assisted dying into the Legislative Assembly in late 2023.
