Racial discrimination
The Australian Lawyers Alliance (ALA) advocates for equality and non-discrimination. We promote access to justice and equality before the law for all individuals, regardless of their wealth, position, gender, age, national or ethnic origin, sexuality, ability or religious belief.
We believe that:
- discrimination has a prejudicial effect on individuals' lives and should not be tolerated;
- legal protections for individuals and groups against discrimination and hate speech must be enforced and protected;
- diversity should be promoted and governments and industry should reflect the communities that they serve; and
- restricting marriage to heterosexual couples is discrimination, and marriage equality should be legislated.
Lawyers play a fundamental role in identifying and eradicating discrimination in all of its forms. The ALA actively engages in public debates to promote diversity and eliminate discrimination, wherever it might emerge.
